Vocal extraordinanaire Mesut Kurtis is now being called one of Nasheed's and Islamic music's biggest stars. His unforgettable rendition of The Burdah has become a modern day classic.
Born in July 1981 in the Macedonian capital of Skopje. He comes from a scholarly and religious family of Turkish origin. He came to the UK at a young age to pursue his studies.
Mesut showed a strong interest in Islamic nasheeds from a very young age. His beautiful, powerful, and passionate voice was noticed very early on, leading him to join several nasheed groups in Macedonia that performed locally, and also made several international visits including performances in Turkey and neighbouring places. Mesut is also a gifted multi-linguist, being fluent in five languages, and this is wonderfully portrayed in his first nasheed album: Salawat, which features songs that beautifully and seamlessly combine Arabic, Turkish, and English.
Mesut Kurtis is an artist with an incredible voice who does not accept being confined to one style, mood or category and has built for himself a very wide fan-base, becoming a favourite for listeners of all ages.
A humble group of 5 hailing from the Middle East formed in 1995, Ahbab Al Mustafa are a new wave of inspiration in the world of nasheeds. The mellifluous sounds of Ahmed and Abubaker Assaggaff, Tal Albulkhi, Ahmed Aljefri, and Salem Bin Hafeedh are heard around the world by listeners of all ages and appeal to an array of cultures. To date, they have released many albums in their 14 year long careers; amongst them are the timeless classics such as: ‘Al-Burdah’, ‘The Shimmering Light’ and the unforgettable ‘Time of Dawn’
As well as commercial success, Ahbab Al Mustafa have also part taken in many auspicious events and have performed in front of highly distinguishable guests such the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed at the award ceremony in Dubai where they performed. Other memorable performances include; the World Festival of songs recently held in Kuwait and their only ever previous visit to the UK during the annual ceremony held at London's Wembley Hall.
Born on 3 September 1964, Junaid Jamshed, known as JJ by his adoring fans, is a famous Pakistani recording artist who came to the scene as front-man of the group vital signs in 1987 and remained youth icon through the 1990s. At the height of his career, he turned his back on the world of glitz and glamour and devoted himself to Islam. He now limits himself to singing songs that praise God, and focuses on the practice of Islam and its pious personalities – somewhat along the lines of former Cat Stevens know famously known as Yusuf Islam.
The debut album of the newly reformed Junaid Jamshed was Jalwa-e-Janan in 2005 which was quickly followed by Mehboob-e-Yazdaan in 2006. In 2008 JJ released Badr-ud-Duja followed by his latest production Badee-uz-Zaman in 2009. He combines tradition, culture and Islamic values to create the perfect blend resulting in variety of mellifluous sounds which enchant audiences of all ages and cultures.
Formed under the guidance of the esteemed Dr. Sheikh Samir Al Nass, the Hamami Munshids have been described as one of the best group of cultural nasheed singers to come out of Syria in the past century. They have been blessed with incredibly beautiful voices and possess a very distinctive style of singing nasheeds, their diverse voices blend together to create a unique and awe-inspiring sound, which have enthused many throughout the world.
The group leader, Sheikh 'Abdur-Rahman Hammami has studied at the hands of some of the most pious and learned men in Syria in the different sciences of Islam. He is frequently witnessed singing and serving in the gatherings of the scholars of Damascus.
He has been involved in training many young nasheed singers in Syria, from amongst some of those trained by him are the other members of this blessed group: Ibrahim and M’uadh Al Nass, who are the sons of Dr. Sheikh Samir Al Nass, have been singing since their childhood and have literally memorised 100s of nasheeds by heart, the group is completed by Ahmad Al- Jabban and Abdur-Razzak Durra who have also been mentored by some of the great sheiks and Munshids of Damascus and along with the other members of the group have memorised the Quran.
Affectionately known as 'Bulbul' (nightingale) for his melodic voice, Khalid hails from Lyon, France though he was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1969.
Khalid began singing from the tender age of 7 and in late 90's he was lead vocalist in French based band 'Badr.' His album 'Les Noms de Dieu' (The Names of God) and 'Paroles Veridiques' (True Word) were both released in France 2002.
Extracts from this rendition of The Burdah, the classic poem by Al-Busiri praising the Prophet (PBUH), was featured on the album 'In praise of The Last Prophet- Yusuf Islam and friends' released in October 2002 He performed with Yusuf Islam in 2003 and has also toured with his friend Zain Bhikha. These performances and duets have only but shown us the artistry of this majestic singer.
